BAY VIEW GALLERY NIGHT AT SWEET WATER ORGANICS
Join us for a wonderful night of art, dance and music. The internationally recognized justseeds collective is strongly represented by Milwaukeeans Colin Matthes, Peter Yahnke Railand and Nicolas Lampert who will be displaying their work. Neil Davis will be opening for a special dance performance from the incredibly talented Friction Dance Company immediately followed by a performance from Dark Dark Dark with Hello Death supporting – Come join us for an evening of great entertainment.
As crisp Autumn winds cut Milwaukee’s dog days it carries with it a dread of snow and Minneapolis’ Dark Dark Dark (Supply & Demand Music).
With lead crooner Nona Marie Invie as the harbinger, you just may have the courage or at least the somber resignation to stick it out another Winter. The Minneapolis/New Orleans’ quintet will be toting their latest atmospheric, avant-pop effort Who Needs Who
to the cavernous corridors of Sweet Water Organics
for Bay View Gallery Night.
Despite parlor-folk instrumentation like banjo, accordion and piano, you won’t find the merry preciousness of Lumineers or Edward Sharpe here; rather emotional lamentations as raw and dark as their moniker suggests. DDD’s sparse but heady arrangements have the heft of Antony and the Johnsons, but with Invie’s refreshingly quirky croon reminiscent of Regina Spektor. The lyrics may evoke painful introspection over a breakup with founding member Marshall LaCount, but they never cross into brash brooding or depression. Invie’s words even reach empowerment and hope on their latest effort, out on Supply & Demand Music October 2nd.
Doors open at 4pm. Performances began at 8pm.
**There will be a separate requested donation for the Hello Death / Dark Dark Dark performance.**
Performance at 9pm from Friction Dance Company.
